Recently, I’ve received several enquiries about using Clicker for teaching French or Spanish as a second language. In this series of blog posts, I am looking at the different activities offered in our Clicker: MFL packages.

In this blog post, I will look at building on the vocabulary and structures learnt in part 1 with French and Spanish 2. I’m also going to look at how you can use Clicker: MFL to build your own resources.
French 2
Previously, we looked at using French 1 to teach the topic of animals. We’ll continue with the same topic in this blog post. In French 2 you can develop the topic of animals further with ‘Le monde animal’ topic. Children are introduced to new, more exotic animals and their habitats. This topic builds on the vocabulary covered in ‘Les animaux’ in French 1, using a wider range of colours and new ways to describe the animals’ appearance and behaviour.
The unit is organised in the same way it was in French 1. There are similar red activities to introduce new vocabulary, yellow activities for developing simple sentence structures and green activities for reading comprehension.
The final activity for ‘Le monde animal’, children can create a chart displaying key information about a selection of the animals introduced throughout the unit.
French 1 and French 2 resources are fantastic for giving children the structure and support to use new language effectively; building gradually from key vocabulary, to simple sentences, to more creative use of language. The familiarity across topics gives children the security to try out new vocabulary and independently practise what they’ve learnt.
Create your own
With the French and Spanish resources, you also receive new voices to use in Clicker. Claire and Bruno for French, Maria and Antonio for Spanish.
These voices allow you to use all of the tools available in Clicker 8 in either French or Spanish. This means you can create your own MFL resources within Clicker to support a range of skills in the target language. This opens up endless opportunities for building learners’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
